I would love to live in another country for at least a year w my family.
I feel really lucky to be here— the only reason I am is because of the US Gov’t and the military. Which is another funny thing that Republicans talk about— Obama cutting back the military. Sorry, I don’t see that happening. I almost feel guilty about how much we get, and then I remember the potential risks and all the obligations, etc.
Maybe it’s because the Mormons see Europe as a proving ground to convert people, and not as a real place?
That’s probably it. The US is like their promised land, I guess.
I always got the impression that the Right Wingers disliked Europe because they think it’s all socialism and anti-religion. Most countries are overtly Christian, even if it’s somewhat secularized. Every Sunday Germany all but shuts down, it’s nationally known as a family day and you see families everywhere walking in the park, riding bikes, etc. How’s that for family values? I’ve never seen Christmas celebrated like they do here. The Christian holidays are big party days.

Yeah; Easter Monday off, e.g. In Rome, the neighborhoods are named after their churches. Divorce wasn’t LEGAL in Italy until recently, and NOTHING is more important there than family. All over France are GINORMOUS crucifixes at roundabouts. WTF?
